George Freudenstein was born in the United States. He began drawing and painting as a child,
His current work is in watercolor. Inspired by Norman Rockwell’s narrative style as well as work by Winslow Homer and Edward Hopper, George’s work seeks to tell a story or capture a moment.
George draws on a variety of subjects for his paintings. His more recent paintings involve capturing “local color,” capturing settings and people at a unique moment or in situations that seek to express the atmosphere of the local setting. This work focuses on Israeli settings, generally in Jerusalem or Tel Aviv, and also contains an evolving series of paintings of the Shuk Mahane Yehuda in Jerusalem.
While George’s paintings display an array of day-to-day scenes of Israeli life in diverse locations, the subjects are not mere typical scenic depictions of Israeli locations. Instead, they attempt to celebrate those locations by serving up the inhabitants thereof in refreshing circumstances caught in moments that communicate the local color of the venue. The colors, vivid in the way that only water colors can be, provide a current look at life in the land of Israel, across venues, cultural strata, and situations. Noted curator, Orit Lotringer, described George’s work as follows: “With a confident hand, and much ability, he successfully captures the right moment and conveys its atmospheric essence....George enables us, the viewers [of his work] to tell ourselves the stories [of his subjects].”
Over the last 6 years, George has participated in a variety of exhibitions with one other or multiple artists. In addition, he has done a solo exhibition in the Jerusalem Theater during April of 2017. His most recent exhibition was in December of 2019 at the Gallery on the Lake in Raanana as part of a group of 4 artists.
In March 2019, George was included in the internationally renowned Art Market Magazine’s Gold List.
George’s work has been featured on the cover of Makor Rishon’s Shabbat Supplement on 7 different occasions over the past 3 years, as well as alongside certain articles within the paper.

יליד ארצות הברית, ג'ורג' פרויידנשטיין התחיל לצייר כילד צעיר, אבל לא קבל השכלה פורמלית באמנות. הוא סיים אוניברסיטה בתואר לראיית חשבון וניהל קריירה בעסקים, בראשונה בארה"ב ואח"כ בישראל אחרי עלייתו ארצה עם בני משפחתו. אחרי קריירה של כ30 שנה כאקזקוטיב פיננסי ותפעולי, ג'ורג' סוף סוף חזר לאמנות.
עבודותיו הן בצבעי מים על נייר עבה וכבד. עקב השראה מהסגנון הנרטיבי של נורמן ראקוואל ובנוסף, מהעבודה של ווינסלו הומר וגם של אדווארד הופר, העבודות של ג'ורג' משתדלות לספר סיפור או לתפוס רגע מיוחד.
ג'ורג' עובד מצילומי מקור, ומהתחלות מהרגעים המוצגים שם, מנסה להוציא את האטמוספירה ברגעים ואתרים אלה תוך שימוש בפרט רלוונטי ואפיוני, צבע, זוית, ושימוש קונטרסט קיצוני בין אור לצל. ציוריו מתעסקות במגוון של נושאים. עבודותיו בתקופה האחרונה מתרכזות במה שאפשר להגדיר "צבע מקומי", שמשתדלות לתפוס אנשים או מקומות ברגעים מיוחדים או בסיטואציות בחיים היום-יומיים באתרים שונים בארץ. עבודה זאת מתרכזת ברקעים ישראליים, בדרך כלל בירושלים או תל אביב, וגם כולל סריה מתפתחת של ציורים באתר שוק מחנה יהודה בירושלים.
האוצרת המוכרת, אורית לוטרינגר, מתארת עבודותיו ככה: "כוחם של ציוריו נובע מהאותנטיות, מהרגישותת ומהיכולת הטכנית הגבוה שמופגנת דרכם....כל אחד מציוריו משקף חוויות, מצבים יומיומיים ופרטים שמשכו את תשומת ליבו....ביד בוטחת וכישרון רב, הוא מצליח לקלוט את הרגע הנכון, ולהעביר את התימצות האטמוספרי....כך למשל הוא מצייר זוג חרדי שאוחז יחד את סל הקניות....ג'ורג' מאפשר לנו הצופים לספר את סיפורם...."
במשך ה6 שנים האחרונות, ג'ורג' השתתף במספר תערוכות יחד עם אומנים אחרים. הוא הציג עבודותיו בתערוכת יחיד בתיאטרון ירושלים באפריל 2017. התערוכה האחרונה בה הוא השתתף היתה בדצמבר 2019 בגלריה על האגם בפארק רעננה, כאחד מקבוצה של 4 אומנים.
במרץ 2019, ג'ורג' נכלל ב"רשימת הזהב" של הירחון הידוע ארט מרקט מגזין.
עבודותיו של ג'ורג' הופיעו שבע פעמים על השער של מוסף שבת של מקור ראשון מאז ינואר 2016, ובנוסף, ציוריו ליווו גם כמה מאמרים בתוך המוספים של העיתון.
